apparently i spoke too soon.

my doc just called. he wants me to go see an orthopedic, so they're trying to set up an appointment to get me to see one on Tuesday or Thursday morning. my doc should be calling back soon to let me know what's going on. hopefully, it will be within the next few minutes because William and i are going to see Resident Evil2 at 4:05PM, and we'll need to leave in..... five minutes.

okay, back from the doctors. my doc sent me to another one to take a nerve test. it was a little uncomfortable when he jammed a needle into my muscle. he was looking for damage. didn't find any, my muscles are fine. so here is my diagnosis: i do not have carpal tunnel syndrome. i have cubital tunnel syndrome. same thing, only instead of the wrist, it's in the elbow. my ulna nerve is pinched, not my radial. doc said it's going to take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months for my hand to start feeling normal again. he said that this is caused by pressure on the nerve right at the elbow: propping my elbow up on the desk/table/etc. since i do that all the time, i can totally believe that. he said first off, have to stop doing that, and see if the problem will correct itself. he said that if by Jan or Feb, my hand hasn't felt normal, then i have to come back and get retested. then based upon that test, surgery will be decided. he said that it is worse for someone with cubital tunnel syndrome to have surgery than for someone with carpal tunnel syndrome to have surgery. so, going to do everything i can to avoid that. my doc prescribed Celebrex, so i have to take that now. i'll have to call my doc back on Monday to see if he wants to change that, upon receiving the report from the nerve doc. ::sigh:: it doesn't sound too bad, does it? this is such a relief. finally knowing what is going on.

sane, to be or not to be?

i am beginning to question my sanity. how do you know if you are going insane? is there a test you can take? if you can question your sanity, doesn't that mean you are sane? ::shrug:: dunno. problem is i've been having trouble with my thoughts. they aren't flowing right anymore. and i'm having trouble determining reality vs. fantasy (meaning i can no longer tell what has happened and what hasn't). i think it's just stress really, but damn. i wish my brain would start functioning normally again. i wake up and have trouble remembering what my name is and what is going on in my life. i consider this a bad sign. it's been bad the last few weeks, and i really think that's because i'm stressed about my hand. and it's been really bad the last few days, and i think that's because we're trying to find out if my brother has cancer or not. he's only 23, and it's either cancer or an infection, and from what the doctor was saying it seems more likely to be cancer than the infection. they've already ruled out an abscess. it's in his neck, his lympnodes. we were suppose to find out yesterday, but william slept through their phone call. the idiot. hopefully i'll know more tonight when mom calls. ::sigh:: i rather hope that it's just stress affecting me. the last thing my parents need at this point is me going insane.

i am so fucking creeped out right now it isn't even funny. i was reading fanfic, was looking for a bit of Angel/Xander, wanted the drama of the Buffy-angst and everything, so was looking for something long. stumbled across this:

i am so going to have fucking nightmares tonight. this was the dumbest idea i've ever had. my hat is off to the author of the above fic. it's a fucking disturbing scary piece of shit! i've never been so creeped by anything written. horror movies easily scare me, but the writing on this thing is so vivid it was easy to imagine and i am so FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW! GOD! HOW AM I GOING TO SLEEP TONIGHT! I'VE GOT TO FIND SOMETHING TO DO, SOMETHING TO TAKE MY MIND OFF OF THAT THING!!!!

watched the rerun of "Thirty-Eight Minutes" last night (Stargate: Atlantis) and i'm telling you! it is soooooooooooo obvious that there is some unresolved sexual tension between Sheppard and McKay. AND not only that, but that there is emotional involvement on both sides. i do believe though that at this point, McKay is more emotionally invested than Sheppard, or at least more obvious in his affections/desires. ::sigh:: they are so ready to bang. found some groups and ljcommunities who agree with my diagnosis. here are the links:

bloody hell, i cannot wait for this weekend to fucking get here! i want a break damn it! i want time to breathe! i want to not be stressed! is that too much to ask for?!

::grumbles:: i set up an appointment to see my GP for September 10th about the numb finger thing. i have begun to think that the ER misdiagnosed me. i wish i had one day free of classes then i could go back up to Huntsville and schedule an emergency appointment with my GP and everything would be gravy. instead i am having to wait two weeks for a regular appointment, during which time, my fingers could fall off or die. i am so freaked!

i'm making a run to the grocery store in a minute, at least i won't die starved ya know? if you find a finger, give it to me, it's mine and i'm probably looking for it.

well, where to begin....

my insomnia is acting up again. caused me to miss two of my classes yesterday, so not fun. didn't fall asleep until sometime around 6AM so slept straight through the alarm at 7AM. couldn't risk pulling an all-nighter and missing the first history class by crashing in the afternoon. so missed my linguistics class and one of my english classes, but woke up in time for the history class. i took some tylenol PM last night, so i finally got more than four hours of sleep. been making do with -4 of sleep each night for the last week and a half. hopefully, after a few days of taking tylenol PM i can go back to my 5-6 hours a night schedule.

spent the morning and the afternoon in the emergency room today. i don't have a doctor down here at school, so had to go to the emergency room. was not fun, took forever. i've been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. it is apparently why i have no feeling in two of my fingers and part of my palm (on the left hand). it feels totally funky. today is the fourth day of the funkiness. i have been prescribed some meds to try and get the inflammation of the nerves down (if i understood all of this stuff correctly). anyway, something called Naproxen. never heard of it. i have to do research tonight and figure out what all of this stuff is, both the meds and the syndrome.

i should also say, that i am a chicken, and dragged calichan with me to the ER. ::sweatdrop:: i will get over my fear of the unknown, eventually, maybe, in a few centuries...

computer issues....

well, for those who didn't know, my computer has gone to the trash heap. i'm at home now, so i'm on my parents' computer. i still haven't managed to read all my e-mail yet.

we ordered my new computer last night. the expected ship date is the 18th of August, but hopefully it will come earlier, since the first day of classes is the 19th of August. i got a desktop instead of a laptop, because the laptops were just too expensive. i'm going to miss being able to cart around my computer.

anyway, a new computer means that i shouldn't be having ANY problems for at least a few years. praise the Lord! no more computer crashes, missing/deleted data, spotty internet access, mysterious glitches, and a plugged in printer that the computer says isn't plugged in. i'll also be able to play more advanced games on it, so that'll be fun!

now, i'm going to search for food, then attempt to appropriate my brother's computer for my own nefarious purposes. cheers!

well... ::stares blankly at computer for a while::

i have been enlightened tonight. this is going to reveal my absolute ignorance of the majority of the HP fandom, but i've never made a secret of that before so i don't mind my ignorance. i love to write, i love to read, but rarely like to talk, so i spend most of my on-line time to myself. i rarely remember to turn on AIM or Yahoo!im, but when i do and someone ims me, i talk because it's polite and i enjoy conversing with people who have no expectations of me. okay, so that's me. calichan sent me an im inviting me to join in on a wank on hp_hatred. i assumed wank meant a bash-fest and asked her what was up. she then told me that hp_hatred was a troll that didn't troll, and she was bored and looking for amusement so was going to troll the troll.

needless to say, i kind of just blinked at her and said huh? she gave me the link with the order to read. so i did, which is where i picked up the term "stalker journal." anyway, apparently (for those of ignorance [or innocence, depending upon your POV]) a stalker journal is one that flists a bunch of BNFs. now, once again if you're like me, you just went, "huh?" BNF - Big Name Fan. calichan telling me what the acronym stood for was no help to me, so i'll continue with my probably redundant explanations. a BNF is a fan with a lot of fans, ie Midnight Blue and Cybelle, if i'm understanding all of this correctly. i chose the two of them to be my examples since "Mirror of Maybe" and "If You Are Prepared" are usually one of the first recs a new Snarry fan gets. calichan says i qualify as well, but ::scratches head:: i don't really see it. especially since i won't post my fics anywhere but FF.Net until they're finished. i just don't get enough press, you know? and that's my choice, so no one think i'm complaining please.

ahhh, where was i going with this? oh, okay, so i followed a bunch of links in the hp_hatred lj of other examples of stalker journals, wanks, trolls, and whatnot, and was surprised, okay more like totally shocked, to see some of the people included. one journal, can't remember which, was insulting ntamara. i just don't get it. i must be missing some subtext here. i think she is a very nice person. she is on the very short list of people who have had an actual live conversation with me, and i enjoyed talking to her. it's been awhile, but i think of her fondly when i read her lj entries. i have her friended, and am pleased that i am on her flist as well. and even if she has forgotten who i am, that's fine too. i'm all about the ones you meet briefly on the way. you learn a lot from them, and i've a good memory.

anyway. i guess the point of this is, i usually feel bad about not participating more in the HP fandom. i mean i write, i talk to my group members - i host chats for them, i post to lj, but otherwise generally keep to myself. after learning all of the above, i'm kind of grateful i am off the radar, or so i think i am. it makes me hesitate about becoming more involved in fandom. i'm sure that new fandom members feel the same way. but perhaps i am still being naive, every fandom probably has the same problem. it's just that i never noticed it when i was active in the Sailor Moon and Farscape fandoms. i've never noticed it in the Xena/Herc fandom either, but just like the HP fandom, i generally just write and rarely talk, but those i have spoken to are very nice. ::shrug:: perhaps, i am still in shock?

Movie Reviews....

i saw four movies this weekend, well actually, three and a half. anyway, here go the reviews:

1) Miracle
this was the hockey movie that came out in February i think, with Kurt Russell staring. it was a little difficult to keep track of who was who in the movie, and it was very, very fast paced and a hard to keep up with. i watched it with my father who told me that he watched all that when it was happening back in '76. without him telling me the backstory, i think i would have been lost or at least slightly confused. with the backstory, it made for good watching. it's not something that i think i'll watch again. three stars.

2) Master and Commander
this is the movie with Russell Crowe about the British ship captain trying to catch the French privateer. i got halfway through this movie and turned it off. i was totally bored with it. perhaps it improved in the later half of the movie but i really didn't think it worth it. no stars.

3) The Bourne Supremacy
Matt Damon's new movie, sequel to The Bourne Identity. awesome movie! totally loved it. there were some really great scenes between the character Pam (forgot her last name) and Jason Bourne. some of the fight scenes were hard to follow, they were a little bit too chaotic, but on the whole the fight scenes were excellent. four and half stars.

4) Catwoman
Halle Berry's new movie. this had nothing to do with the Batman series, which in my opinion was a good thing. it focused on ancient Egyptian beliefs, particularly the Goddess Bast. i liked the CGI movements for Catwoman, they definitely had the feline quality they needed. four stars.

vacation....

i'm leaving to go home in a few minutes and i've decided not to bring my laptop with me. i've also decided to leave all my notebooks at the dorm too. i'm going to take a vacation. i'm not going to think about the fic rec list or any fic. i'm not going to check my mail this weekend (i'll probably regret that on Sunday night when i get back). i'm just going to study Japanese and hang out with my friends, see Catwoman and the Bourne Supremacy, and that's it. oh and sleep. need lots of sleep. i had two hours last night.

am too tired to continue further, so toodles folks, talk to ya on Sunday i suppose. hopefully the trip home will be uneventful.

as promised, here is the rant...

i went and saw Fahrenheit 9/11 for the sole reason that it would earn me extra credit. i had every intention of never seeing that movie. i knew i would be at the very least irritated by it, but i did not expect to get as angry as i did. i had a notepad with me in the theater so i could jot down things i wanted to talk about in the critique i had to turn in to prove i went and saw the film.

i'll say what i jotted down and then expand upon it.

1) very anti-Bush
at least 1/4, if not more, of the narrator's statements were insults to Bush as a person or as a president.

2) bin laudin family invested in Bush family businesses - both Bush Sr. and Jr.
this was before the Persian Gulf even occurred. were they suppose to consult Ms. Cleo to see which of their investors might have mass murderers in their family in the coming years? also, this is his relatives not him. just because one person in a family is bad we should cut all ties with the rest of the family?

3) very biased against all saudis
the film criticized Bush for meeting with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador for a casual dinner at the White House two days after the 9/11 attacks. the Ambassador happens to be a family friend of the Bush family and is someone that the President respects and trusts. why shouldn't he meet with him? and why does the meeting have to be formal? they've known each other for years!

4) appointing arabs he knows rather than those who he doesn't
the film criticized Bush for appointing arabs he had business associations with to positions of power in Afghanistan and diplomatic positions to other arab countries. excuse me, but if you have someone you trust or at least can anticipate their behavior in any given situation, wouldn't you pick them over someone you don't know as well? is that what every president does when he appoints his cabinet?

5) lots of hearsay
video clips of interviews and inquiries were used to prove that there were mistakes of gross proportions made before the 9/11 attacks. however, there was no hard evidence given to support the statements. it was one person saying "blame him for the attacks!" and that was it. there wasn't a written record of any conversations, recordings, or even a second witness! it was a case of "he said/she said." hearsay.

6) lots of things taken out of context
the film used quotes from speeches given by President Bush and other governmental officials to paint the individual in a bad light. for example, a partial quote from President Bush said "yes, it would be easier if this was a dictatorship." the context of the quote is missing and it was used in a portion of the film that advocated that Bush went to war with Iraq for his own personal reasons and not because of national security.

7) Iraq never threatened, attacked US or murdered a US citizen
okay, i haven't had time to look up this yet, but it sounds utterly ridiculous, and let's leave it at that.

8) no mention of Britain or Japan in coalition of the willing
this is what pissed me off the most! the film flat out lies and says that only US troops are over in Iraq fighting. it leaves out every large country that is a part of the coalition and says that the coalition is made up of the US and a bunch of small countries without standing militaries and are still using stone tools. well i'm sure that will make the families of dead soldiers in Japan, Britain, and Canada very happy. their loved ones didn't die. how could they? they were never over in Iraq! how could Moore even think of saying something so fucking disrespectful to the dead soldiers and their families! he wants us to lynch Bush, well i'm all for lynching Moore after hearing that bullshit! i could have dealt with all the rest without getting irate, but this offends me to the depths of my soul. i am so angry about this, i don't feel like i'm even explaining myself well.

::sigh:: okay, i'm done here. no more rants about this in lj. i'm sure i will probably rant if anyone asks me about his farce of a "documentary" in RL, but no more here.

well today was eventful. went out with Katie and saw Fahrenheit 9/11 so i could write a critique on it for extra credit in my US history class. afterward we went out to eat, and then when i got back to the dorm i wrote my little critique. it's suppose to be two pages double-spaced and it is not suppose to argue the agenda of the film or whether or not it is a documentary.

here is my "nice" critique that i will turn in tomorrow morning:

A Fair Critique

There is a great deal of debate surrounding the truth of the film Fahrenheit 9/11. Whether or not someone believes the film to be true is not the issue in this critique. Instead, if one assumes the film to be a documentary, one would hope that it would stick to facts. Fahrenheit 9/11, however, is glaringly against the current administration. The film goes so far as to exclude information to support its standpoint against President George W. Bush. This is not a balanced documentary on the events leading up to, through, and following the 9/11 attacks due to the fact that uncorroborated statements were used as evidence, quotes and information were taken out of context, and some information was excluded from the film.

The film showed video clips from interviews and trials where an individual would be testifying or simply giving an opinion that was never backed up by any hard evidence. An example was one inquiry where an individual said something along the lines of "Attorney General John Ashcroft told me that he did not want to hear anything more about terrorist attacks on the United States." While this information was given under oath, it is still hearsay because there is no concrete evidence to support it. There is not a record of the conversation on tape or in writing. No one else in the film backed up the individual's statement. There is only the word of one man. That makes it hearsay.

The film also employed video clips from speeches President Bush and other government officials gave in support of its stance against President Bush's administration. For example, there was a clip where President Bush said something to the affect that the United States would be easier to run if it were a dictatorship. It was used during a phase in the movie that spoke negatively about an act passed by Congress that allowed the government to access private information of United States citizens for national security purposes. Without the context of the statement, it implied that President Bush was seeking to expand the power of the federal government for his own reasons instead of with the thought of national security in mind.

There was well-known information excluded from Fahrenheit 9/11. An example would be the film says that the "coalition of the willing" was made up of the United States, Iceland, Costa Rica, and a number of other small countries. It said that only the United States supplied troops for the war in Iraq. The last statement was false, and the first was missing information. Although the majority of the troops were US forces, there were coalition military forces fighting in Iraq that were supplied by Canada, the United Kingdom, and Japan among others. In leaving out that information not only does the film skew the viewer's outlook on the coalition, it is disrespectful to the non-American soldiers in the coalition that lost their lives fighting in Iraq.

The film does contain facts and has evidence to support them that mistakes were made by the Bush administration. However, although the film is a documentary, it can't be trusted in its entirety because it is so heavily against President Bush. The film sacrifices part of the truth to strengthen the argument against the Bush administration.

The film is successful in stirring the emotions of the viewers and most information is accurate – even if it is given with an anti-Bush stance. Fahrenheit 9/11 will make some people angry and others will feel justified. It is a good attempt at documenting the events and emotions surrounding the 9/11 attacks, but the film is not objective. Therefore, it is not highly placed in this viewer's estimation.

that is my "nice" critique. tomorrow - since i am much too tired to do it tonight - i will write my "real" critique. it will not be pretty. i was very angry when i left the theater, and i've already ranted at three people who were unfortunate enough to ask me what i thought of the movie before i could purge myself with a written rant-slash-explosion. arg! i need to stop thinking right now, i'm getting vexed again. night all!

Velvet Goldmine...

okay, so calichan and i were introducing cbpbunny and aten_ra to the joys of Velvet Goldmine a couple of days ago, so it's been on my mind since then. and i remember that after i first watched it that i went looking for fanfic and was disappointed by the lack of Arthur/Curt. well, just a few minutes ago, i was looking for VG fic again and pretty much found what i had found before. ::pauses:: although, i did find a trilogy that i had read before that imho is the best Arthur/Curt out there. (you can find it through here => author's profile) i'm not saying by any means that it's perfect but beggars can't be choosers and all that mess.

anyway, what was the point of this? oh right. so after we finished watching the movie, we were explaining things to cbpbunny and aten_ra and swapping theories on the movie. well, calichan agreed with me that Arthur/Curt is OTP for VG. so if two individuals such as ourselves can pick up on that, why do most people focus on the very unhealthy relationship of Brian/Curt and try and to make it fluffy? THERE IS NO WAY TO FIX THAT MESS. IT IS PERMANENTLY SCREWED. calichan hit the nail on the head when she said that Brian totally idolized Curt and that fucks up any relationship, and i was also correct when i said that Brian was a fucking manipulative bastard. that will also fuck up a relationship. (and i'm not saying that Brian was totally at fault in the relationship) so what does that leave us with? an impossible relationship. unless you make Brian totally OOC it will not be fluffy. i will admit that there is an exception to this rule, though. if you set the fic during their trip and avoid foreshadowing, you can have Brian/Curt fluff. otherwise, it's simply ridiculous.

i would like to see more Arthur/Curt out there. and if anyone knows where to find some right now, i'd appreciate a link. ::sigh:: however, it seems pretty unlikely that will occur. it's like the delicious Raiden/Johnny Cage OTP from MK. a few fics - and by few i mean 4 - and that's it! these should be larger fandoms. ::scowl:: i have a plot bunny for a J/R fic that is patiently waiting for me to finish something before springing on me in rabid style. maybe i could come up with something plausible for VG, but i really don't have time to do anything of the sort right now.

okay, i ordered the Lemon Bliss martini, and it was Good.... until i ate the chips and cheese sauce, then it became one of the more disgusting drinks i've had in awhile. ::laughs:: it was a good drink, but i prefer wine still. i love wine, that's my alcohol of choice. i'm just not one for hard liquor. ::shrug::

ah well, so much for a stress free weekend. my history test is next week on Tuesday. ::sigh:: well, it was fun while it lasted...

tonight, calichan, cbpbunny, aten_ra, and i are going out for drinks - martinis to be specific. unfortunately or fortunately depending upon your point of view, i have never had a martini. this is mainly because almost everyone i know of who has had one thinks they tasted like shit/rubbing alcohol/piss and other nasty things. but tonight, i will drink one. hopefully it won't taste so horrible that i can't drink it. :D calichan was telling me some of the types of martinis and she mentioned a Butterfinger Martini, that supposedly tastes like a liquid butterfinger, and i don't know about you guys but does that not sound incredibly disgusting? when i get back, i'll post and tell ya whether i liked it or not. ::laughs:: cheers!

i am going to be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy tomorrow at about... 1:00PM. by that time i will no doubt be back at the dorm and it will signal the start of my weekend! i need a break! i'm so glad that i'm not taking that second math class because i was really stressed while trying to deal with the first one (which i failed by the way -- for the third time) ::sigh:: how is it possible to be so stupid in something as simple/logical as mathematics and be at least moderately intelligent in every other area if not genius-like? (yes, i know i can be snobbish when it comes to my smarts) but i know i am clever, so why can't i seem to understand math? ::scowl:: i'm irritating myself. will stop here.

ANYWAY! yes, a mini-vacation is just what i needed. i don't have to worry about any tests, since we just had our midterm in art history, and the next history test isn't until the week after next. ...i think. ::scowl:: i might have to worry about a test. damn. will check the syllabus in class tomorrow. too lazy to do it now.

::sigh:: am slightly hungry tho.................... am going to search for food! cheers!

was trying to explain the difference between Mary-Sue and Self-Insert to cbpbunny aka => Nakishia, my protege in the fanfic world, when the following ridiculous scene popped into my head. must remember to try not to think of examples when explaining oddities in fanfic writing....

It's a normal day on the planet Earth - well as normal as any day can claim to be - and it was no less normal at the home of fanfiction author 'Artemis Luna Diana' than any where else in the world. Said author was enjoying some vacation time from her busy schedule of school and writing, by watching a little tv - nothing of note of course, just something to pass the time. When the doorbell rang, she thought nothing of getting up to answer it - assuming it was a delivery man or a friend stopping by for a chat. However, when she opened the door, the very normal day at her house on the very normal Earth suddenly became... un-normal.

Luna blinks. Stares. Blinks again. Stares some more.

"Uh, hi? I'm kinda lost," the visitor begins to explain.

Luna slams the door shut and calmly but quickly walks to the phone. "Yes, 911? I have just gone insane, can you please send a paddy-wagon to pick me up? I'm seeing cartoon characters on my front lawn." Luna pauses to wait for a response. "Which one? Goku from DBZ." Pause. "Sure. I'll tell him you said hi." Pause. "Hang on one moment." Luna sets down the phone and walks back to the front door. Goku is still standing there befuddled. "The 911 operator wants to know if you have the hots for Vegeta or not. She seems to think you run hot and cold when it comes to him."

"Uhh..." Goku stutters surprised.

"You might as well come in," Luna says, giving in to the inevitable. "I can already tell this is going to be one of those days."
